The fire service took a significant leap when it recognized the association between our work in the fire service to the work being done in aviation. Step with one intention. Reduce firefighter injuries, deaths and equally important, reduce firefighter near misses.

A few years ago the IAFC introduced Crew Resource Management .  Along with CRM the IAFC launched firefighter near-miss.  This site is designed to allow firefighters to report unusual event, near-misses and mistakes.  All report submission are confidential and non-punative.  They are lessons learned that are available to each one of us to read, discuss and improve to avoid the same lapses.

VIsit the IAFC Firefighter Near-Miss Reporting Web Site

I personally held an FAA Commercial Pilots License, Flight Instructor, Instrument Rating and flew single engine aircraft ranging for simple Cessna and Piper aircraft to the complex pressurized six passenger Piper Malibu.  I was lucky to have taught dozens of students from private pilots, commercial pilots and flight instructors dome who had gone onto airline careers.  It was my second profession.  In 1993 after ten years in aviation I worked with a professional Cockpit Resource Management organization. During my CRM training the association between the two professions was difficult to dismiss.

Since then, my fire service development path took me to in positive and influential fire service education arenas.  Working with the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services, developing and deploying PSEN and working with the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation and currently serving as the National Program Manager for the Courage to Be Safe (sm) has set the stage to bring our CRM experience to a national audience.  Firefighting and life safety education is my primary mission.  It is a legacy worth fighting for.  Imagine being a contributor to shifting fire service cultures. Imagine, the reward of educating our newest generation of young firefighters with the knowledge and experience that could shape their beliefs, conceptions and outcomes.  The uniqueness we bring to CRM training is 11 years as a professional pilot and 25 years as a professional firefighter.  Over a thousand hours of pilot in command time brings actual stories, examples and associations that validate our CRM program like no other in the industry.

CRMOur one day program combines real aviation crew resource management experience with real experience as a firefighter and how truly understanding the concept of Crew Resource Management can significantly improve leadership, followership and outcome.

PSEN would like to bring Crew Resource Management to your organization.
