Washington, DC, June 15, 2006 - The U.S. Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board (CSB) today issued a safety bulletin following the agency's investigation into the June 24, 2005, fire and explosions that swept through the Praxair Distribution, Inc., gas cylinder filling and distribution center in St. Louis, Missouri. The accident occurred when gas released by a pressure relief valve on a propylene cylinder ignited. 
It was an interesting review. LNG becoming CNG and fueling more vehicles than I had thought about. I have seen the new MBTA CNG buses all over town so I was not surprised that many of them were using the CNG fueling station. But the ever growing fleet of environmentally safe vehicles operated within the Commonwealth are fueling up here. Even privately owned CNG vehicles are stopping by. The time to go over the characteristics of the fuel and look at the fueling station is now. With the tour that I had I want to share what I saw and learned in the form of a short refresher presentation.

Whenever you approach a high voltage vehicle in a fire, rescue or recovery situation you must always follow one cardinal rule: Always assume the vehicle is powered up!
