This Month's Lesson:
In this segment, you will focus on the leading two causes of firefighter fatalities - Heart Attacks and Vehicle Accidents. These are both things we can take steps to prevent - you are in control.
You may have heard the saying "Less is More". Here is what it means to us. It means compressed burst learning clips that are direct, clear, timely and to the point relative to driving and driver attitude modification. We do not need to over present the subject we simply want to provide you (as the saying goes) food for thought. These three driver awareness clips are examples.
Here are two "look what I found" video clips. The first is a clip from an actual backdraft and it will remind you why "reading" a fire is important. The second involves a training accident while using a cutting tool.
Our effort to reduce line-of-duty death to firefighters continues to build momentum. There are times during my travels that audiences ask about the role of the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. What is the Foundation about? Who supports it? How do they help families of fallen firefighters?
If you did not realize that their mission is to provide support to your family if you die in the line-of-duty then it is time you learn more about the significant role they have in the fire service community. Do you know how the NFFF has taken on the challenge to reduce line-of-duty firefighter death by 25% by the end of 2009 and 50% by the end of 2014? Do you realize that most firefighter line-of-duty deaths are preventable? If you are still surprised by what I am saying then you MUST stop for a few moments and watch their promotional video.
It is time you understood the role of the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.
The media clip will provide answers to any questions that you may have.
We have found a growing interest in fire simulations. Part of the successful development of any organization is open dialogue across all ranks. What better way to develop an open dialogue than talking about fighting fires. Our simulations are simple in design but powerful in net worth. A simple goggle satellite image merged with PSEN fire simulator graphics and drag and drop resources is where we begin. Your team helps decide apparatus placement. Add ground level images of the same location with fire generated from a ground perspectives. Now you can incorporate team discussions relative to placement, strategy and tactics. Finally take the company to the actual location to pre-fire plan as well as establish your action plan
In the old days there were more fires. That meant more firefighters developed skills based on working fires. Today we experience less fires, we work with less personnel and we are expected to be "the expert". We can not become experts the old fashion way BUT we can use our expertise in conjunction with technology to create interactive fire simulations. This is just one example of a simple fire simulation. You can drag and drop hydrants where they may actually go, you can drag and drop your resources into positions based on a tentative strategy and you can have each member of your crew modify the plan by repositioning the resources into different locations and explaining why. This has the potential to convert bland one dimensional talking into two dimensional visual training followed by three dimensional on site pre fire planning.
