There is so much we can do in order to develop as trainers. If you are a presenter and enjoy guiding an audience to new places then you must continually perfect the craft. Sometimes the more experience we have the less we prepare. After all, we have done it hundreds of times. So many time that we may not need a lesson plan to follow.

When you teach you are in many ways attempting to pursued your audience to change. It may be a change in procedure, it may be a change in attitude or perception. You are looking for a change in behavior. Just because you are "certified" as a fire service instructor does not mean you will be effective just because you are speaking. You certainly will not be effective if you use coercive teaching tactics. The only way to alter a students methods or perceptions and persuade a consideration to change is if you are sincere in your preparation and teach every class as if it were your first and best performance.
The POWER approach it a short but important acronym to begin our process of helping benefit by putting it to use before our next teaching presentation.
