Our effort to reduce line-of-duty death to firefighters continues to build momentum. There are times during my travels that audiences ask about the role of the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. What is the Foundation about? Who supports it? How do they help families of fallen firefighters?
If you did not realize that their mission is to provide support to your family if you die in the line-of-duty then it is time you learn more about the significant role they have in the fire service community. Do you know how the NFFF has taken on the challenge to reduce line-of-duty firefighter death by 25% by the end of 2009 and 50% by the end of 2014? Do you realize that most firefighter line-of-duty deaths are preventable? If you are still surprised by what I am saying then you MUST stop for a few moments and watch their promotional video.
It is time you understood the role of the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.
The media clip will provide answers to any questions that you may have.

This is an educational option when the classroom experience does not meet proposed organizational time-lines, location and instructor availability.
It might appear that this method to training would be easy. It can present you with relative ease when you consider how and when you learn. On the other hand it will require one online "Live" web conference between us for each of the five presentation. The second phase involves downloading the instructor preparation module. The final phase involves an additional "Live" web conference long enough to exchange information regarding the teaching cues tied into the program design.
National Programs do not just happen. They take planning, funding, development teams and many others important details to bring a program such as this to your community.
In this first segment we will "make the case" for why we need to champion such a program. We intent to outline the "how" and by whom this went from vision to reality.
Two hundred forty fire service experts gathered in Tampa and were tasked with determining what domains should we start with. What domains should we build our first initiatives foundation upon. It is important for you to who is behind this and the dedication that the national development team brought to the table.
Courage To Be Safe Presentation - Part One
Since you can see the need to shift the fire service culture you need to see the first step toward making such a change.
We are dying too young because of heat attack, stroke, and progressive poor health. We are involved in too many vehicle collisions causing debilitating injuries and fatalities.
Some say that these two issues will always be a problem and that there are other more important issues to work on. One one hand you might say that kind of statement is true, on the other hand you will not resolve any issues if we can not stay alive to resolve them.
Courage To Be Safe Presentation - Part Two
We begin looking at initiative. In this section we begin with the first initiative, shifting our culture and work our way to the sixth initiative involving health and wellness.
It is important to remain open to the idea that we do have control over the issues that are both the primary and secondary causes of death in the Line of Duty.
Courage To Be Safe Presentation - Part Three

In this section we address initiative seven through 12. The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation is looking for much more than train-the-trainers and classes taught all across the country.
Data needs to be collected locally and incorporated into a national data base so that progress can be measured and the programs path modified and built upon so that additional initiative and be developed or current initiatives can be modified in order to improve effectiveness
Courage To Be Safe Presentation - Part Four
Finally we close detailed initiative thirteen through sixteen. Form making sure that family of our fallen have the support needed throughout the year(s) to cope with their loss. To make sure that the inclusion of children is threaded into the counseling and healing process.
We look at the significance of seeking grants, public education and residential sprinklers can have toward improving line of duty death in the fire service.
We ask -- "What are you willing to do?" to be part of this campaign
